Fermentation Lab

1) What process was observed in this lab?

-Fermentation was observed during this lab.

2) What gas was produced in this process? What observations was seen to show this production?

-Carbon Dioxide was produced in this process, and we observed this through balloon expansion.

3) What is the overall equation of cellular respiration? Circle the reactants, Place a box around the products.

-Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + energy

4) Which flask or flasks had no observable gas production? Why is this so?

- Flask 1 and 2 (the ones containing strictly sugar and strictly yeast) had no observable gas production because they had no energy transformation.

5) Which flask prodcued the largest volume of gas? Why might this be so?

-Flask 3 (the one with a combination of yeast and sugar) had the most gas production because energy was being transferred between the sugar and the yeast.

6) What are some observable indicators that a chemical reaction was taking place inside some of the flasks? (Name two)

-Bubbles and fog were two observable indicators that a chemical reaciton was taking place inside some of the flasks.

7) How are photosynthesis and cellular respiration connected in a biochemical pathway?

-All cells go through cellular respiration, whereas only green plants photosynthesize. The two processes are opposites, one stores and one releases. Photosynthesis is a chemical process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds.
